Electricity. Mason County is home to the world-famous Ludington Pumped Storage plant, a 27-billion-gallon water reservoir -- 2.5 miles long, a mile wide, and 110 feet deep -- situated along U.S. 31 on the shore of Lake Michigan, four miles south of Ludington. Owned jointly by Consumers Energy and Detroit Edison -- and operated by Consumers Energy -- the Ludington Pumped Storage plant can generate enough electricity to serve a city of 1.4 million people. Gas. One of Mason County's most outstanding attributes is the abundancy of natural gas, for business and industry. Pipeline and infrastructure is in place, serviced by MichCon.

Water. Mason County communities and the City of Ludington enjoy a cooperative relationship, with regional and local units of government participating together in the proliferation of water services. On the shoes of Lake Michigan, one of the world's finest fresh water resources, water is plentiful, and ready to utilize.

Waste Treatment. The same cooperative organizations and attitudes encouraging fresh water development also guide wastewater treatment policy and infrastructure in Mason County. The cities of Ludington and Scottville, with Amber Township, Pere Marquette Charter Township, and West Shore Community College, have worked together to expand and improve the County's wastewater treatment infrastructure in recent years.
